Billed as a ‘festival of cycling’, the Prudential-sponsored RideLondon will see an eight-mile loop of London roads closed to normal traffic, so bike users can enjoy it without the usual hazards. Developed by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London – himself an avid cyclist – and his agencies, the weekend-long event has something for everyone, from families wanting a casual ride through central London, to the world’s top cyclists racing in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic and Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix. Amateur cyclists can also participate in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 – a 100-mile challenge on the same closed roads as the professionals. Check the website for exact timings of the various events, and for details of how to register for free attendance.
