Thousands of fans have paid tribute to David Bowie in a series of street parties and singalongs across London.

The star, who died on Sunday following an 18-month battle with cancer, was born in Brixton in South London in 1947. Crowds gathered there to celebrate Bowie’s life, and sing some of his greatest hits.

There were also tributes beneath a plaque in Heddon Street in Soho, which featured on the Ziggy Stardust album cover.
