Forget Uber: Driverless pods are coming to London which passengers will be able to hail using a smartphone app – and rides will be completely free.
Six-seater laser-guided pods will start cruising along the Thames Path and other areas of Greenwich from summer, it was reported.
Eight shuttles, modelled on the monorail pods that operate at London Heathrow airport, will “intelligently move around” at speeds of around 9 mph, according to the Evening Standard.
The project is part of the EU-funded Smart Cities project. Footage of the 3D mapping process was released this month along with pictures of the pod designs.
Though driverless, the shuttles will have a human safety steward, it was reported.
