Cocooned in a quiet corner in the heart of Mayfair, Sexy Fish has everything a fussy diner can ask for. The restaurant has a vibe of a private exclusive club, but the staff make it obvious that it remains a place where one can enjoy good food and drinks against the backdrop of dark wood and lavish decorations – with artwork from Damien Hirst, Frank Gehry and Michael Roberts – and DJ sessions later in the day. And while the setting may be too dazzling for some, the menu is rather simple, with a big focus on fresh ingredients. The vegetable tempura is crispy and light (£11.50), while the whole baby chicken Yakitori (£18.75) is a glorious take on the famous Japanese recipe. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and children are not frowned upon by the receptionist. But be aware that it remains a place to see and be seen – and dress accordingly.
